A Powerful Team Practice to Bring Your Full Self to Every Meeting
Our Powerful Practice
We at The Inner Work-Out have experienced over and over again that this practice opens up space for each team member to bring their full selves to each meeting.
Invite your team to do a check-in at the beginning of the meeting. To introduce a check-in, you can ask: “Please share in one or two words how are you right now?”
One at a time, each person shares their answer. With this practice, we invite everything in, open the space for showing up as ourselves and build trust within the team.
Why does it work? And what are the effects?
This practice increases trust within the team. Team members can share their feelings more easily with each other as there is no need to give advice or “fix” anything. This practice lifts a barrier and opens up new ways to connect.
A check-in raises productivity. After checking in, team members are more aligned with each other. Expectations of each other are set right for the meeting. For example, somebody shares that she/ he is tired. When she/he yawns later during the meeting, others will less likely take it personally.
This practice strengthens inclusion as everyone has the opportunity to be heard at the beginning of the meeting.
The check-in encourages authenticity. Once someone shares with their team how they truly are, it lifts the pressure of showing up the same way every meeting.
Please don’t hesitate to ask any questions. We would love to hear about your experience!
